Physical Description: Dark brown, tousled and worn on the long side (just above the middle of her back), Lorelai rarely does more then quickly run a brush through her hair, leaving it to frame her heart shaped face however it likes. Occasionally, usually when it's warm or she's working, she'll pull it back into a loose ponytail. Her medium-light skin tone, which leaves her with at least a bit of color year round, makes her eyes, an equally dark shade, stand out. And while she does have a full blown smile, you're more likely to see her lopsided smirk. Much like with her hair, she doesn't put much effort or interest into make-up. Usually she leaves the house as she is (or with a bit of chap stick), but occasionally she'll rim her eyes with a dark liner and throw on some lip gloss. At 5'6 she's a little taller then average and weighing in at just under 130 she's somewhat curvy, with toned legs and a flat stomach. She keeps in shape by running at least once a week.
As far as fashion goes, Lorelai's style is a bit all over the map. Her closet is full of bright, eye catching colors, soft and loose fitting t-shirts with vivid prints, hard jackets, short but interesting dresses, and jeans (usually of the skinny variety) which tend to be well worn with either holes, bleach stains, or interesting zippers and pockets and paired with a large belt. Almost all of which she bought from a thrift store. Despite how varied the rest of her wardrobe tends to be, you can almost always find her in the same pair of dark, mid-calf boots or barefoot. Often wears a scarf or handkerchief tied around her left wrist, hiding a burn scar (about an inch and a half long) she got, while cooking, in her late teens. As far as other accessories go, she actually owns a large variety of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings (she does, after all, make them) and wears any combination of them with every outfit. Powers/Special Abilities: In the somewhat near future, Lorelai will posses the ability to shift her body between her human form and that of a cougar, though her mind will always be a bit clouded by the cougars thought process. She'll gain stealth and find she's much better at climbing trees then she was. However, a new found fear and dislike for all canines will spring up, as well as a near inability to not give chase when someone runs or back down if someone is clearly the bigger opponent, has the better vantage point, or is even just more fight then they're worth (to the cougar). In either form she'll be able to communicate, mentally, with other cougars.
On a human level, Lorelai is creatively gifted. She designs, prints and sells her own t-shirts, as well as jewelry and other accessories. Occasionally she paints and branches out to other creative outlets. She's also a skilled cook.
Personality: Private is a good word for Lorelai, she's not the type to wear her emotions on her sleeve or to share her life story with any and everyone. In fact, she tends to wear a cool front, sometimes going so far as to come across as detached (especially in really stressful situations). Not because she is, underneath that cool facade is an intense passion and huge heart, but because she feels an almost irrational need to keep her thoughts and feelings to herself. As if letting anyone else see her in any kind of a weakened state will give them power over her (vulnerability is not something she handles well).
As you might have guessed, Lorelai isn't the most trusting person out there. At least, not of (near) strangers. She doesn't automatically assume the worst of everyone, but she doesn't assume the best either. She prefers to be wary of you, waiting to see if you'll be considered friend or foe. Dishonesty and mind games are a sure fire way to irritate her, though she doesn't take kindly to people who ask too many questions (about her) or try to pry into the details of her life either. It should be said, however, that if you do manage to earn her trust she's one of the most loyal and generous friends you could ask for.
An odd mixture of free spirited and control freak, Lorelai enjoys trying new things, embraces change and loves adventure, but (as previously mentioned) she keeps her emotions in check, is a perfectionist when it comes to her work/projects and will take control of a situation and boss around anyone who will let her.
While not the most social butterfly in any group, Lorelai is friendly in her own way. Not overly talkative in most instance, but willing to make some chitchat. She doesn't do the perky-outgoing thing so many young woman seem fond of (perky actually makes her a little irritable). She tends to be a bit more reserved, though she can be silly with close friends.
Strengths: Honesty is important to her, so you can trust when she says something, it's what she means. Resourceful, able to adapt to new situations and make them work for her. Weaknesses: Fiercely independent to the point that she would end up living on the streets before she even thought about asking for help. Lacks patience, becomes easily frustrated and irritated when things/people don't work or cooperate with her wants and needs. Forgive and forget is a foreign concept, she's capable of holding a lifelong grudge and is fond of vengeance. Takes poorly to any kind gesture she perceives as being done out of pity. Sexuality: Homosexual
History: In their early 20's Sophia Fenton and Jared Michaels met and fell in love. They were wed by their late 20's and the proud owners of Adline's Bakery & Cafe (named after Jared's mom), a medium size bakery & cafe. In their mid 30's the couple welcomed their first daughter, Juliette, into the world. Three short years after that, Lorelai. Even with two bouncing, bundles of joy, both parents continued to work at the bakery & cafe, taking turns on who would be there and who would be home. Occasionally they would both go to work, either leaving the girls with a grandparent for the day, or even bringing them along and setting them up in a playpen in the office.
Even as a toddler, Lorelai quite liked spending her days in the bakery & cafe. The constant different smells and interaction with the other workers kept her occupied (as did coloring books). When she finally started school she wasn't really sure how she felt about it. On one hand, she loved learning and doing new things, but on the other, she wasn't that crazy about spending her entire day with a whole class full of other students. It wasn't until she realized another student, one Matt Woodard, also seemed to be sticking to the outskirts of the other students playgroups, that she made a friend. Pretty much from the moment she sat down across from him and started quietly coloring, the two just seemed to click and understand one another.
A few months prior to her 11 birthday, Lorelai's mother was in a fatal car accident. While the family was sad, they tried to keep their spirits up (in part because they knew Sophia would hate to see them all sad, but also because they each felt like they had to be strong for the others). Lorelai found an outlet for her sadness in her art class, loosing herself for hours in drawing and painting.
While it was something she'd sort of always known about herself, it wasn't until the summer before her 13th birthday that her sexuality would actually become a part of her life. Before then, it was a sort of vague thought she had. Not worth further thought, since she wasn't even remotely interested in relationships or crushes. That summer, however, she found herself quite infatuated with the neighbor's 16 year old daughter, which rose questions from her sister and resulted in Lorelai nervously coming out to her family.
On August 27, 2005, a then 15 year old, Lorelai and her father evacuated the city of New Orleans, staying with Sophia's parents in Chicago, Illinois. Lorelai attended her first year of high school in the foreign school, sticking to herself for the most part. She disliked that they were forced to leave their home, but she did enjoy experiencing Chicago (a city which she'd only visited a few times in her life, at which point she spent almost the whole time actually visiting her grandparents). She managed to make friends with a couple girls (they were on the track & field team with her) who took her to concerts and showed her the best places to shop.
Jared and Lorelai returned to New Orleans in June, 2006. The city wasn't exactly back on it's feet, but there would be schools opening soon and the two were eager to return to their home and asses the damage. The family was lucky, aside from water damage (worse at their home) and looting (worse at the bakery & cafe), neither of their properties were too worse for wear. Certainly livable, and before Lorelai started her sophomore year (finally happily reunited with bff, Matt) the bakery & cafe was reopened (mostly serving relief workers).
Near the end of the year Lorelai met Renee Hudson, a gorgeously creative 17 year old who seemed to know exactly who she was and didn't care what anyone else thought. The two met up a couple times over winter break and by the middle of January were dating. The two were together, on and off, until Renee moved to California to try and become a famous musician. During their relationship the girls went to a school dance together (mostly because they wanted to upset one of their teachers who was chaperoning), had an epic fight in the middle of their school hallway, slept together, and nearly got expelled when Lorelai sketched a nude portrait of Renee for one of her art class projects.
Lorelai's senior year passed with little fan fair. While most of her classmates were panicking about college, she had little interest. The possibility of college simply held no appeal to her, she didn't want to be a doctor, lawyer, teacher, or anything else that require a college degree (and since there was no scholarship in her future, it was the smart choice financially). When she wasn't helping out at the bakery & cafe, or hanging out with Matt, she started printing t-shirts (after watching a craft show on tv). Halfway through the year, other students had shown an interest in the designs. Before graduation she'd begun selling hand printed, and occasionally painted, t-shirts. When a fellow student requested a matching pair of earrings, Lorelai decided to give it a go. Finding she enjoyed jewelry making just as much, and, before long, she began selling it as well.
After graduation, not much changed in her life. She continued to live with and work for her dad, as well as selling her creations. Though she did set up an etsy shop, to make her life easier. She's been happily focusing on helping her dad and simply creating. Though, she did recently move into her first apartment at the end of April. Which she shares with roommates. One of whom happens to be Ronnie Mason, one of her closest friends, though others might not always believe that, considering the two tend to bicker and get on each others nerves quite often.
Birthplace: New Orleans, LA Current Residence: The Central City District community, HarmonyOaksApartments. She recently moved into a three (or four!) bedroom apartment, which she shares with Ronnie Mason and one (or two!) other roommate(s).
Job: Works at, Adline's bakery & cafe, her father's bakery/cafe. / Sells hand painted/silk screened t-shirts, jewelry and other crafts. Family/Friends: Sophia Michaels (mother, deceased). Jared Michaels (father) is a soft spoke, kind, joyful man. Lorelai is rather close to him and does her best to help him out however she can. Juliette Michaels (older sister) is a calm, determined, focused young woman with big goals who doesn't do so often, but can be the life of the party when she lets her hair down (so to speak). Lorelai loves her sister, but the two of them don't have much in common and rarely call each other just to talk. Matt Woodard (best friend) is a kindred spirit to Lorelai. He's creative, often helping her with new projects, not afraid to experience new things, patience enough to almost make up for her complete impatience, and while he occasionally lets her think she is, he never lets Lorelai push him around. He knows all of her secrets, she all of his. Ronnie Mason (roommate/close friend) is clearly trying to drive Lorelai insane. The two often butt heads and end up bickering and irritating one another, but despite that, they're actually friends and would be there for one another without batting an eye.
Sample Journal Entry: I'm not sure why, but I couldn't seem to sleep last night. I just kept waking up over and over. Obviously I finally just gave up, decided to go on my run early since it wasn't doing me any good laying in bed. It turned out to not be a completely horrible decision when, 10 minutes into the run, the sun started to rise. The colors were so vivid. And I mean, literally, the entire sky seemed to be an explosion of orange and red. It was gorgeous. But I'm kind of a sucker for all sunrises and sunsets, so maybe it was just me? Either way, I'm toying with using the design in a t-shirt or the color pallet in a necklace maybe, someway to incorporate the inspiration anyways. I don't know, something to think about later.
Unfortunately I don't have time to ponder right now, since I need to get to work. A whole day of making sandwiches for strangers! Okay, so it's not actually bad, I usually even have fun. I might need some coffee before I get there, however. Sample Post: Leaning forward, her hands resting on the counter in front of her, Lorelai watched the couple as the read over the menu. From where she stood, she couldn't actually make out what they were saying, but the way their gazes seemed to yo-yo from the board behind her and each other, she could imagine they were weight the pros and cons of each meal. Not an uncommon practice among their customers, but one that still served to sort of amuse the brunette.
Finally the couple seemed ready to order, moving forward to stand under the Order Here sign. Pushing herself away from the counter, Lorelai headed down to meet them, pulling her face into her friendly, customer-service smile. Sounding both friendly and a little bored, "Welcome to Adline's." They nodded their hellos, the woman offering a wide smile (a lovely smile, at that), so Lorelai continued on, asking, "What can I get ya?" The woman pushed her boyfriend forward, silently announcing she needed another moment to decided. With a slight shrug, he did as she asked, "Roast beef po-boy, with a order of plantains and an iced tea." Turning her head toward the window leading to the kitchen, Lorelai repeated the order to the cook, "Need a roast po-boy & side a plantains." When she hurt a faint grunt, a clear since Georgie, the cook, had gotten the order, she turned her attention back to the couple. Surprised, though pleased, to see the woman appeared to be ready to order as well. "Bowl of okra gumbo and a water, please." The woman paused, looked at the dessert display to their left, then added, "And a slice of fig and pecan pie." Lorelai grinned, then turned around to grab both their drinks and add the bowl of gumbo to their order.
ETC: All information was cleared with Ronnie Mason's player beforehand!
