Singing about good things and the sun that lights the day
I used to sing on the mountains, has the ocean lost it's way.
FIRST IMPRESSION: Depends greatly on when you're meeting her. While working she comes across as very focused and professional, but not very social. Whereas in her personal life, she's bubbly and warm, but a little all over. Of course, if you meet her around a lot of the other Other's she's the complete opposite, radiates nervous energy and tries to blend in and not be noticed.
STRENGTHS: Passionate, loyal, determined, silly, sweet, friendly
WEAKNESSES: Stubborn, passive, impatient, anxious, work-perfectionist, messy, easily intimidated
QUIRKS: hides under her bed when scared, murmurs in her sleep
LIKES: the ocean, cuddling, dancing, BBQs
DISLIKES: bugs, aggressive types, sleeping in a hot room, being alone
FEARS: failing, being laughed at (in a mean way), flying
SOCIAL PERSONA: When she's comfortable, Chana is the life of the party. Warm and bubbly, outgoing, loud, being silly and making people laugh. However if she's not comfortable she's skittish like a wild animal. She radiates nervous energy and isn't above clinging to a friend.
ROMANTIC PERSONA: When Chana falls for someone, she does it hard. Gives her whole heart to them and holds nothing back, for her there's nothing casual about love.
TURN ONS: Accents/unique voices, curves, candlelight, a good laugh, leaving marks
TURN OFFS: Aggression, vulgarity, body-oder
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5'4; 116
BUILD: Petite and boyish
SKIN: Fair. Oily. Prone to breakouts when stressed.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Hoop in her right cartilage.
EYE COLOR: Green
HAIR COLOR: Platinum Blonde
Chana doesn't really pay attention to fashion, she dresses mostly to be comfortable. Her wardrobe is largely made up of tank tops, short sleeved-button-up flannel shirts, short-shorts, cargo shorts, bikini tops, and tennis shoes. When just hanging around the room, she tends to just wear a tank top and pj shorts.

The story starts in the ER of Georgetown Memorial. Emily Heffner was one of the nurses on call when things went bad at a local fire and a support beam fell, crushing Patrick Lowe, one of the firefighters, breaking three of his ribs. Jeff Lloyd happened to be one of the fellow firefighters who came in, waiting to make sure his buddy was okay. Emily was the nurse who came out and told the firefighters that Patrick would be fine, and in the excitement Jeff picked her up in a hug. Cliche though it was, they both felt sparks, and when the other guys finally left for the night, Jeff stuck around and asked Emily to dinner sometime.
Four years later the two got married, followed by the birth of Chana Karis less then a year after that. Nearly from birth little Chana was a sweet child, but very excitable and just as loud. Her first love was, without a doubt, the ocean. Even at 5 the promise of getting to spend the day at the beach could make her calm down and behave (which still left her pretty loud and active by most parents standards). When school started she was so excited she couldn't stand herself, every day was going to be like a new play date! Unsurprisingly, she did well in school but got in trouble a lot for talking and not sitting still.
Then, in her 6 year old opinion, they got the BEST NEWS EVER. She was going to be a big sister! When they found out the baby was going to be a little girl, she got even more excited. She helped pick out toys and clothes, happily awaiting the arrival of the baby. And when little Kara Marie finally came into the world, Chana vowed to be the bestest big sister ever (a promise she's kept pretty well).
As school continued and birthdays passed, Chana calmed down. She was still excitable and loud, still got in trouble for talking in class occasionally, but she could sit still and pay attention. It would have come as a shock to most of her classmates, but she had some of the best grades in her classes. It was around this time she and a group of friends learned how to surf too, spending almost every weekend they could out in the ocean.
When high school rolled around, Chana figured it would be a new start. New teachers who were unaware of her hyper-habits in grade school, new classes to expand her mind with, and even better, in her opinion, the extracurricular activities were going to be so much fun. Of course, then a Junior decided Chana was her mortal enemy (she caught her boyfriend checking out the little blonde, more then once), and suddenly the school was buzzing with stories about her. Most of them painted her up to be a slut who'd give it up for anyone, there was even one about sleeping with the whole basketball team. And when it became apparent she was making excellent grades? That was chalked up to her being a slut too, because clearly she got that A by getting on her knees for Mr. Berry.
Chana did her best to just ignore it, especially since she honestly had no idea how or why said rumors started. She had a few friends, people who either didn't give a damn what the rest of the student body thought or said or were willing to ignore it, but for the most part she just focused on school. On top of getting straight A's, playing volleyball, and joining her schools environmental club (which mostly just cleaned up the beach and local parks) she volunteered at the local homeless shelter once a week. It was a little upsetting sometimes, to hear (or read, tysm bathroom stalls) all the rumors, but in the end she graduated top 3 of her class and earned a full ride scholarship, so she figures she probably won.
Ended up sticking close to home for college, majoring in Marine Biology. All through out the experience she studied hard, hardly had a social life (she went home at least every other weekend so she could study in peace), though it was worse after freshman year. Partly because of her experience (or lack of) with a social life in high school, partly because the few times she did manage to get drug to some college party she didn't have much fun (the second one she ended up getting groped by a drunk frat boy). Strangely it was once her presences at parties dropped drastically that she ended up in a relationship. Maddie Coles ended up being in a few of her classes, innocent glances turned to light flirt, which turned to Maddie asking Chana for coffee. By September the two were dating and Chana decided she wasn't interested in boys at all.
2003, Chana was in the final month of earning her Bachelor of Science, when she was approached to join a small research team. Now, normally she might not have even been interested in the offer, but Chana had been working her butt off with almost no social life for almost eight years and was facing at least six more years of school. It was the thought of six more years without taking a break that pushed her towards agreeing to join. Besides, the experience she would earn would be worth just as much as her degree when it came to getting a job.
Arriving on the island was weird to Chana, it was a lovely place but it made her nervous (she chalked it up to being away from home for the first time). The team turned out to just be her and two others, but that was okay. It meant she got to do a lot more work then she was expecting. Mostly they just worked on water samples, studying the chemical composition and organic matter. Though the team was also responsible for helping out with any aquatic animals that washed ashore. Aside from her work, Chana was roomed with one Razzle Davenport, who she quickly became friends with (and ended up falling in love with almost just as quickly).
A little over a year later there was a plane crash, whispers about how it happened, what it meant, if there were survivors were everywhere. Chana was curious, of course, she wanted to know too. Especially when, a few months later, it was announced there had been survivors. Some came to live with them, but the others they were told to not approach. Chana had trouble believing that the other survivors were all bad people, but she did as she was told and left it be. And then, just like that, Ben was sending some of the researchers, Chana and Razzle included, home. Both girls were clearly excited to be going home, to see their families again, but there was a sadness about leaving each other.
Before the group was meant to board the submarine that would take them back to the mainland, Chana and Razzle had a conversation about their feelings for one another. Despite going their separate ways when they landed, Chana wasn't worried about loosing touch with Razzle. They were too close to let that happen. So instead she let herself be excited about going home and seeing her family. Who were, despite not knowing Chana had ended up somewhere she didn't want to be and didn't like, thrilled to see her.
