STRENGTHS: Calm. Self sufficient. Social.
WEAKNESSES: Clingy. Disorganized. Messy. Self conscious.
QUIRKS: Hates being stared at, gets fidgety.
SECRETS: Her step-mother's attempt at murder.
Sophie will avoid having to confront people as long as she humanely can. She put up with her step-mother's cruelness for many years simply because she didn't want to stand up to it or upset her dad (for all the good that did her in the end), for example. She's just not a confrontational person by nature, it's rare to see her irritated with others, even when, by all rights, she should be. She doesn't have a violent bone in her body, isn't prone to fits of yelling (like some of her roommates). Her calm, mostly easy-going personality tends to keep them calmer.
While she might be the calm one in the group (because to be hysterical would have grabbed her step-mothers attention), keeping everyone else kind of chill, she is definitely not the leader. She's very rarely even the tiebreaker, to be honest (actually, sometimes being the tiebreaker is way too close to being confrontational for her liking). She will happily inform you that she is a follower. Not to say she doesn't have a mind of her own and can't think for herself, because she can, thank-you! She's very adept at taking care of herself (after all, she was the only one looking out for her during her teen years). She is not, however, even remotely adept at organizing the others and taking control of a situation (far too close to being confrontational, making all those final decisions and last calls).
Not to mention the leader is kind of the center of attention and that is something she goes out of her way to avoid. Now, Sophie is not a shy girl, not really a wallflower, but she's definitely not a center of attention kind of girl. A little attention here and there, she doesn't mind so much. But she doesn't strive for it, doesn't want to be the star. She doesn't like to be stared at, it makes her nervous and paranoid, like everyone is judging her, picking out all her flaws (that's right, she doesn't really know she's pretty. She's gotten to the point where she thinks she's decent looking, but never truly pretty).
As you can probably guess, Sophie is a bit private. Even to those she's opened up to the most, she still keeps bits and pieces to herself. Not because she doesn't trust them, or doesn't want to share, but because she doesn't know how and doesn't really see how/why they would be interested. She has a hard time believing anyone would/could really be that interested in her. And while she has a hard time truly letting go of all her shields, she can be open and warm. Has a silly side that she lets shine more and more the longer she's free of her parents.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5'5 / 120
BODY TYPE/BUILD: Mesomorph / Petite
POSTURE: A little slouchy.
SKIN: Pale, combination, silky, never tans and burns easily.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Two inch scar on her left arm.
EYE COLOR: Blue
HAIR COLOR: Black
Her dark hair hangs past her shoulders in soft, carefree waves. With all that rich, dark hair framing her face, her blue eyes are impossibly bright. Even more so when she smudges dark shadow around them, which is about the only kind of shadow she ever wears. Her sense of style and choices when it comes to clothing are nothing too remarkable. She tends to stick to jeans, usually darker washes, and simple tops, usually cute, graphic tshirts. A few bracelets here and there, maybe a pair of earrings, and almost always a pair of flip flops or cute sneakers.
Lower Floor: Bathroom/Laundry, Bedroom [Drew & Brandon], Family Room, Storage Nook/Wine Cellar
Main Floor: Bathroom, Den/Office, Dining Room, Kitchen, Living Room
Upper Floor: Bathroom, Bedroom & Walk-in [Sophie & Val], Bedroom [Jessi & Jared], Bedroom [Ant & Todd]
Outside: One Car Garage, Patio
The house belongs to the Wilson brothers, they were left it when their parents died in car crash in 2004 (April 12). It was only a couple of months later that Brandon and Val moved it, having been good friends with the brothers for years already. Shortly following that was Todd, who the brothers knew from school, and Becky who Drew knew through work. It was almost a year later when Jessi, who Ant met at work and quickly clicked with, moved in. Four more months after that Jared, her best friend for as long as either could remember, moved in. Then things with Becky went south and she moved out, leaving the opening for Sophie to move in.
AGE/BIRTHDAY: 22 / October 24, 1987
ZODIAC SIGNS: Libra / Rabbit
BIRTHPLACE: Seattle, WA
Sophie Weiss was born into a home full of warmth and love. Her parents, Doyle and Kate Weiss, were thrilled. They never expected to have children due to Kate's illness. For the first two years of her life things were picture perfect, then sickness claimed Kate's life. Young Sophie didn't really understand the sudden loss of her mom, but worst then that, she couldn't understand the loss of her father's warmth. He was still there, still alive, but he might as well have been in the ground with Kate for all the good he did his daughter.
For those next few years her father grieved, barely looked at his daughter or paid her any attention. Then one day, not long after she'd turned 5, he just started getting happier again. It was for many months that she would learn the cause of this sudden burst of happiness, a new woman. It wouldn't be until just after her 6th birthday, only a couple months before the wedding, that she would meet Meredith.
It seemed like everything would be wonderful and whole again, but before the first year anniversary was celebrated Meredith made it clear that she wasn't interested in being Sophie's new mommy. Not to her new husband, mind you, but to her step-daughter. The seven year old might not have been old enough to understand everything happening, but the fact that when the two women were home alone -which happened often enough, due to her fathers work schedule- Meredith made no effort to hide the fact that she wasn't a fan was clear enough. She didn't know or understand why, but she knew she wasn't her step-mothers favorite person. What she would later learn is that Meredith resented the constant reminder that she wasn't Doyle's first, true love.
As soon as Meredith became comfortable with her place in Doyle's life, she showed her truest colors. Her manipulative side came out full blown. And as Sophie got older, bloomed into a young women (one who looked remarkably like Kate, at that) Meredith's resentment toward her become even more tangent. It wasn't all of that long before even when Doyle was around the nicest she could seem to be was politely indifferent. And when he wasn't around, she was cold, mean, and straight up abusive (though it was primarily mentally).
By the time Sophie was 15 the abuse was a near constant and her father's presences in her life almost nonexistent. During one of the weeks that he was actually home she finally broke down and told him everything that was happening when he wasn't around to see it. But he didn't believe her, had bought to deeply into Meredith's lies and was never home (because he, much like his new wife, couldn't really handle the constant reminder of Kate).
Even worse then that though, Meredith's turned even more vicious toward her. Fearing for the safety of her comfortable, lovely life, she turned up the manipulative charm for her husband and the cold malice for her step-daughter. The true extent of her malice wouldn't become clear to her until just before her seventeenth birthday. Another week when Doyle would actually be home, whereas he would not be for her actual birthday, so Meredith cooked a big dinner. The full stop works! Which is how Sophie knew the lobster soup they were served wasn't a mere accident but an attempt on her life (she's deathly allergic to shellfish).
It was at this point Sophie decided, finally, that she couldn't stay in the house any longer. She'd planned to stay until 18, when it was legal for her to leave, but she wasn't willing to risk her life by staying another day, let alone another year. For the next two months she crashed on any and everyone from school who would let/invite her's couch/floor. At which point she got a job, which made balancing school a little harder, and before long moved in with one of her new co-workers. She managed to graduate, though her grades had slipped a fair amount, and a few months after nineteen she changed jobs and homes (though she's still friends with her former co-worker, Gina).
Through her old jobs she had become friends with the Wilson brothers and when one of their roommates moved out, they invited her to replace her. Sophie had been to the house many times and knew the rest of their roommates fairly well, so she jumped at the chance. Since then she's mostly been hanging out with them and working.
