Character Information Name: Kalista Lillian Andrews, but she goes by Kali Age: 25 Fandom: none Alignment: Neutral-Good Brief History: Not long after she turned four, it became apparent Kali had inherited some very unique talents from someone in their family. Her parents were confused, of course, and while trying to figure out what to do about it, they learned about Reesyn. Which is a safe haven for supernatural creatures of all types; the perfect place for a young witch to safely grow-up. The family moved in right across from the Collin's and soon Kali met and made friends with her best friend for life Liz.
On that front, everything was great. But at home, in the privacy of their life, Kali's parents were having issues. They'd never had the best, or most stable, home life, but then her father was let go from his job and everything went downhill a bit. Kali, being the oldest, did her best to shield her three young brothers from the drama. And later, after a period where it seemed like the old Lucas was back (he wasn't), her fourth brother. Of course, with that many mouths to feed and Lucas still not working, bills were piling up a bit. Lucas started verbally attacking Elnora, everything was tense and stressful, though the boys were unaware (and Kali tended to sneak out to stay with Liz).
Because neither girl had the chance to just be little kids like most people, they didn't really relate to kids their own age. Instead they hung out with Liz' older brother and his friends. By the time they started high school they'd already been to all the cool parties. But other then that, it was a bad year. The Collin grandparents (Kali's pseudo-grandpa) passed away and her parents relationship got even worse. Everything Kali had kept hidden about them came to the surface (thanks to a drunken, public fight), but more then that, Lucas began verbally attacking the kids while physically attacking Elnora (though no one else knew about that).
Liz fell into her grief, Kali leaned on Nicky (Liz' brother). Running into her first crush not long after, the two sort of became friends (she spent a lot of time with his band too) and he would be the one to help her reach Liz again. In '02 she got her first job (waitressing) and Lucas moved out. It was a good thing, but it also hurt. Aside from moving into a two bedroom apartment and taking more hours at the diner (at the expense of her grades, usually), Kali convinced Stephen to let her help with some of his behind the scene's band stuff (she became assistant manager). Then, finally, Kali dropped out of school completely to take even more hours at the diner. And kept working for Stephen (she loved it, she couldn't give it up). There was a bumpy patch in Liz and Kali's friendship around this time, but they smoothed it out.
It was about this time, after Kali had taken over managing Stephen's band completely, that crushes (Stephen's on Liz, Kali's on Stephen) would be thrown out into the open. Strange enough, a (quiet, private) relationship formed out of it. Though it didn't last long (08/'04) before Liz started questioning it and pulled away. A few months later though, Kali's mom was doing better, on her feet a bit more, and bought a small house for her and the boys to live in (letting Kali take the apartment).
Liz was in a horrible accident not long after, getting kicked out of her house and moving in with Kali, then replacing Dark Water (Stephen's band)'s drummer. Not long after that Markus, whom Liz had met at the music store and the girls had become friends with, also joined the band. Aside from that, it was a pretty uneventful year. Though, being a little more financially stable at this point, Kali took extra time to try and learn about her magic (though she still didn't have a ton of time to practice).
While the next year was rather busy for her best friend, it was fairly normal for Kali. The only thing of real excitement to pop up for her was the planning stages of a town wide festival, filled with live music, food, art and dancing. Though her younger brother did start college and her best friend an actual relationship. Almost a year after said relationship started, everything went kind of sour. Liz' family caused her to, in a way, breakdown, after which nothing seemed to repair itself. Just a couple months later, on Liz's 22 birthday, everything would just go downhill. Though she told none of them, Liz' uncle died and the next morning she took off. It was strange, of course, but everyone figured she'd be back in a few days (she left all her stuff). Except she wasn't. Instead Kali found out, through Nicky, that Liz' uncle was dead. Unable to leave home, Kali did what she could (mostly calling around) to try and find Liz.
A few months after that, around March, Jason decided to leave. At this point Kali was beyond distraught that her best friend, her life line, would just leave (since her dad took off, she's had some slight abandonment issues). She does her best to not let anyone catch on how torn up she is, but Jason leaving was just another she's not coming back that Kali didn't need. So, in May, she finally manages to successfully scry a trace of Liz's presence (because until that moment, all scrying turned up no results, due to the company Liz was keeping blocking Kali's magick). Markus (who had been Kali's rock through all of this) followed the trail, hunting her down, only to find nothing when he got there. He returned to Reesyn, but only for a couple months (long enough to celebrate Kali's birthday), before he too left (this time to go after Jason, worried about the hunter. Though he planned to look for Liz still). However this departure was filled with promises of keeping in touch and visiting (much as Nicky did), so while she was sad to see him leave, she could handle it.
Dark Water, now a drummer and bassist short, who'd taken a hiatus when Liz left, finally replaced both members of the band in mid-December. At which point Kali threw herself into getting them shows, making sure the fans knew and supported the new members while understanding they still loved Markus and Liz, the band's sites are all revamped. Basically, Kali tried to fill every moment of the day with something and since she hadn't been sleeping much, there was a lot of hours to fill. On top of added band responsibilities, she took more hours at the diner and started working on her magick (she even went so far as to train a few hours, once a week with an older Witch). Plus throwing out all the stops anytime Markus gets to come visit, as throughout this, he'd firmly nestled his way into Kali's heart as one of her best friends (though, if she was honest, she felt a bit more then that).
Which brings us to now. Kali's currently in Reesyn and still doesn't know where Liz has gone, but misses her terrible. Markus is in LA so when Liz attempts suicide he finds the note. A phone call to Kali, and the purchase of a plane ticket, and she's on her way to LA too. Personality: Not only was Kali forced to grow-up quickly, but she developed a need to take way too much responsibility onto her shoulders. She took it upon herself to look after her brothers, keep them safe, and it's something she does now. She takes care of her friends, tries to keep them safe. And while she can pile all these responsibilities onto herself, she's not so great at asking for help when they overwhelm her. Honestly, she just doesn't like to let people take care of her too much. It makes her a bit uncomfortable, even a little useless, which she knows is strange since she encourages her friends to seek help.
A definite worry wart, she has all the emergency numbers programed into her phone, all her friends and neighbors, she has spare keys and first aid kids in her purse. She likes to try and think things through at least a little before she dives in. Likes to be prepared as best as possible.
Kali tends to be a bit private, when she's upset she hides it behind a happy face. Years of getting pitying looks because of what happened with her parents has made her wary of others knowing if she's bothered by something. Though friends can always tell anyways. Well she does like to keep things to herself, she's actually a friendly girl. She usually enjoys going out and being around people.
That said, Kali can be quite self conscious. Largely she worries people are going to leave, but sometimes she can't help but feel like she's in Liz' shadow. Liz' has always been so much more then her; louder, more interesting, bolder, more flirty, funnier. All these things Kali herself loves and adores about Liz, and can't blame anyone else for seeing and noticing, but she can't help but, every now and then, feel a little overshadowed about it. When it comes to guys, she's probably at her worst. She can, occasionally, manage to be a little flirty (but not when she really means it), but usually she just feels silly and can't blame them for turning their attention to her bestie.
Right now, because of Liz' just leaving, Kali is in a bit of a funk. It's something she'll be trying to keep to herself for the most part, but if you'd ever met her you could definitely tell that something has been wearing on her shoulders for awhile. Appearance: Kali is petite, standing at only 5'1, but curvy. Soft like a girl should be, but toned from an active lifestyle (plus she walks almost everywhere). Lightly tan skin and a smattering of light freckles across her nose pair up nicely with rich, dark brown eyes (which have just the slightest slant from her grandmother's blood). Her hair is a dark, rich shade of brown, worn on the long, slightly layered side and doesn't fuss with it much at all. Style wise, she tends to keep it very simple. Jeans and cute, girly tops are standard wear, though she can bust out a cute skirt or dress. Hardly one to go over the top she usually has on a pair of earrings and very light, natural makeup (if she's wearing any at all). Though you'll most likely only catch the barest glimpse of it (unless she's in a swimsuit) she does have a cherry blossom tattoo on the small of her back. And it should be mentioned, for anyone with a heightened sense of smell, Kali always has the underlining scent of water (usually rain, but sometimes it comes across as more of a salty, ocean smell). List of Abilities/Powers: Kali is a Witch, who's base inherent magic is Water. She can cast spells, make potions and charms, but these are things that require proper preparation (ingredients, books, incantations), time and/or skills.
As a Water Witch there are some things that she can simply do at anytime. For instance, she has the unique ability to not only locate bodies of water, but then manipulate them, changing the very temperament of said water, creating waves in still water or stilling raging waves (as an example). On top of that she can locate and manipulate moisture in the air. This ability plays out in a few ways, her ability to fill a room with a thick, rolling fog. Or to pull the moisture all together and then force it apart in a shower of mist (though, with enough focus and practice, she could potentially cause heavy rainfall too), generally ruining most things in the room (electronics and books especially). She can also manipulate the temperature of said mist, causing the room to fill instead with steam (though she's, admittedly, better at making it cooler).
It also gives her the ability, though it's not a honed skill, to scry with little more preparation then getting a bowl of water. Water is an excellent conductor for seeing beyond, as it is always moving and seeing new things itself.
It should be said, while Kali's skill level has risen quite a bit since her teen years, she's still nowhere near as honed/practiced as she should be.

Though she was beyond glad the day was finally over, Kali wasn't quite ready to go back to the empty stillness of their (because despite everything, that's how she saw it) apartment. So instead the little brunette walked right past the apartment building and into the forest behind it. Not stopping until she'd weaved her way though the trees (which grew thicker as she got closer) to the hidden lake. It was here she let herself sink to the ground, pulling her knees tightly to her chest and burying her face in the curve. She stayed that way for a few moments, breathing heavily.
Though nothing special had happened all day, Kali couldn't help the heaviness she felt in her chest. She fought through a few more shaky breaths, clearly willing herself not to cry, before they evened out again. At which point she pulled her phone out, thumbing through her contacts quickly.
Brown eyes glanced out across the water, but didn't really see it, as the phone rang. Focusing suddenly when she heard the tell tale click of the other line being picked up. She spoke immediately, her voice coming out in a quiet rush. Not quite, but close, to a sob, filled with heartbreak and loneliness, which spoke volumes of the trust she had for the other person on the line.
